My name is John Cullen and I am Hockey Sense.
Over the last two decades, I have worked with hundreds of elite athletes on perfecting their game. I teach and coach the key mental preparation and physical, technical and tactical skills that are necessary for consistent high quality performance. My practical strategies are specifically designed to help athletes achieve their personal best performances.

In my work as a player development and sport psychology specialist, I use various strategies to study and improve human movement, including:
- Motion tracking and video capture systems;
- Electrophysiology of muscle activity;
- Various methods for monitoring physiological function, and;
- Other evidence-based behavioural and cognitive techniques.
In the game of hockey, my academic work has looked at:
- The mechanisms, diagnoses, recovery and return-to-play guidelines for sport-related concussions;
- The differences in how on-ice practices are structured in minor and junior hockey;
- The effect of wearing a face shield on feelings of invulnerability in youth hockey players;
- How goaltenders use advanced visual cue information to anticipate shot trajectory;
- How an official’s previous call can influence decision-making on a future call;
- How previous playing experience impacts the ease with which coaches identify unfolding game situations; and
- How knowledge about the game of hockey is structured and organized within the memory of players and coaches.
